New module: Ear Troubles – conductive hearing loss, behaviour and learning

A new 'free to access' module created by Dr Damien Howard (Phoenix Consulting) and the HEARing Cooperative Research Centre with funding from the National Acoustic Laboratories is now available on HEARnet Learning.

Targeted at teachers, other educators and health professionals who work with children and teenagers in Australia's remote and rural communities, the module specifically focuses on the middle-ear disease condition known as Otitis Media.

In doing so, it provides a greater understanding of conductive hearing loss, and its impact on the learning abilities and the types of classroom behaviour exhibited by children with the condition. The module also provides advice on what can be done to provide a positive learning environment in the classroom for children with conductive hearing loss.

Otitis Media is one of the most common childhood diseases in the world, which is prevalent throughout Australia’s rural and remote communities – especially amongst indigenous populations.

The module features a ten-question assessment quiz and a downloadable Certificate of Completion for individuals who successfully pass the module, which can be used to claim continuous professional development (CPD) points or equivalent.
