Infant Directed Speech

By Professor Denis Burnham & Dr. Anne Dwyer.

Practitioners in the area of speech and language development deal primarily with important practical issues such as children’s hearing and their speech production; but they also know the importance of the child’s language environment. In the lab we have systematically studied parents’ infant-directed speech to very young infants and found that it has a far greater pervasive influence on later speech and language development than previously thought. This module provides practitioners such as audiologists and speech pathologists with an up to date snapshot of this research that we hope will augment their understanding of this important dimension of speech and language development.

Accreditation: AudA – Category 1.2, 1 point, AcAud - 2 CEP points
