Infant ABR: Scott (Case 2)

By Associate Professor Dani Tomlin and Dr. Kelley Graydon.

This module aims to provide the user with practical experience in clinical decision making specific to the infant hearing test battery. An infant has attended your clinic for a comprehensive hearing assessment. There are three complementary modules that sit alongside this module. There are a total of four infants that you can assess in increasing complexity; Sophie (case 1), Scott (case 2), Malcolm (case 3) and Pauline (case 4, the most complex). Each module is unique, requiring the Audiologist to make decisions regarding test order, presentation level and the necessary tests that are specific to that infant. The aim is to determine the hearing status of each infant in the most efficient way (i.e. while they remain asleep). By the end of each module, it will be necessary for you to analyse your findings in order to select the most appropriate feedback and management.

Infant ABR: Scott (Case 2)

By Associate Professor Dani Tomlin and Dr. Kelley Graydon

This module addresses the important topic of early detection of hearing loss in infants. Newborn hearing screenings are now universal in most parts of Australia. This is a relatively recent scenario, and one which has fundamentally changed the practice of paediatric audiology. The material presented here aims to give participants a good understanding of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) as it operates in Australia and the National Framework, aetiologies of hearing loss, and areas in paediatric audiology, and pathways for diagnosed babies.
